Deca vs Equipoise: Muscle Gain, Appetite and Joints
Deca vs Equipoise
Deca is often discussed for size and joint comfort; Equipoise for gradual gains, appetite and a leaner look. Both attract people pursuing muscle gain, but neither reputation guarantees more lasting muscle.
The useful comparison includes sexual function, blood counts, blood pressure and how long exposure persists. Joint comfort and increased appetite are separate questions—not reliable promises of either drug.
The practical differences
| Compare | Deca | Equipoise / EQ |
|---|---|---|
| The drug | Nandrolone decanoate | Boldenone undecylenate |
| Why people consider it | Size, strength and joint comfort | Gradual size, appetite and vascularity |
| A key question | Does less pain mean an injury healed? No. | Will appetite reliably improve? Not established. |
Reported amounts: compare context as well as milligrams
200–600 mg/week
Nandrolone decanoate
Reported weekly total; injection split and course length not specified.
200–600 mg/week
Boldenone undecylenate
Reported weekly total; the same numbers do not imply equal effects.
Mullen’s Table 1 compiles online reports and supplier information. These are not tested ranges, equivalent doses or prescriptions.
Separate EQ examples: nonmedical editorial advice describes 400 mg/week as an addition, while one user reported 600 mg/week alongside testosterone at a 15-week bloodwork check. That is a reporting point, not a verified full-course duration. Neither establishes a safe cycle or verifies product identity. The duration cannot be transferred to Deca or combined with the compilation’s range.
Both preparations can continue exposure after the final injection. More weeks are not required merely because a curve builds slowly. See the Deca/NPP guide and Equipoise guide for formulation detail.
Release timing is not a contest in half-life numbers
Human nandrolone research shows that ester, site and injection volume affect concentrations. A single fixed value can conceal those conditions. Human ester study; Decanoate PK study.
The US Equipoise record concerns boldenone undecylenate in horses. It does not establish a human 14-day half-life, a performance dose or an equivalent nandrolone amount. US veterinary regulation
An honestly labeled estimate can still show what a prolonged release assumption would do to overlap. It should not be presented with the same certainty as a source-defined human model.
The joint-pain difference is easy to exaggerate
A small nandrolone pilot reported improvement in pain among men on testosterone treatment who responded to follow-up. It had no placebo group and substantial missing follow-up. It does not prove cartilage regeneration, tendon healing or superiority to boldenone. Primary pilot study
A small nandrolone pilot measured reported pain, not repaired cartilage or a safe increase in training load.
Read the pilot studyPain relief can also change how hard someone trains. An improvement in symptoms does not, on its own, establish that an injured structure is ready for heavier loading.
Compare measured changes, not stereotypes
“Deca means prolactin” and “EQ means hematocrit” are incomplete shorthand. They can lead people to overlook other causes of symptoms or automatically add another medicine. A blood count and a prolactin result answer different questions; neither can be inferred from a drug curve.
Bring baseline and follow-up bloodwork, home blood-pressure readings, exact compounds and dates to a clinician. Reading bloodwork explains why a testosterone value is not a summary of every androgen in a stack.
What stopping means for either preparation
Exposure can continue after the final injection. That does not mean there is a universal waiting period after which a SERM will reliably restart the reproductive system. Natural testosterone production, sperm production and symptoms recover on different timelines.
A curve may help document the exposure history. PCT fundamentals explains what it cannot decide.
Common questions
Which produces cleaner gains?
“Clean” has no defined study endpoint. Changes in water, fat, muscle and training should not be compressed into one adjective.
Does the longer ester require a longer cycle?
No. Long persistence describes release; it is not a reason to extend use.
Can one replace the other at the same amount?
These are different active molecules, with different evidence. Equal milligrams do not establish equivalent benefit or risk.
Sources and review notes
Checked October 12, 2026. Reported amounts use Mullen’s compilation, not model defaults. The joint-pain pilot lacked a placebo group and had substantial missing follow-up. The human nandrolone PK study and US veterinary boldenone record cannot establish a head-to-head performance or safety comparison.
